These changes, aimed at improving team logistics, enhancing viewer experiences, and raising competitive standards, include venue relocations, a revamped playoff format, and expedited prize pool payouts.

The PGL CS2 event originally slated for Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been relocated to Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

The tournament will take place from February 14–23, 2025, culminating in a live audience playoff at the iconic BT Arena.

With numerous European events scheduled around the same time, relocating to Cluj-Napoca minimises travel strain for teams and ensures optimal competitive conditions.

Each PGL event will feature a US$1.25 million prize pool, with updated payouts emphasising higher rewards for third place.

Starting after the 2025 Cluj-Napoca event, PGL will revamp its qualification process.

Open and closed regional qualifiers through Esportal will determine participation.

Invitations will be allocated as follows; 12 spots via Valve Regional Standings, one team each from South America, North America, Europe, and Asia closed qualifiers.

With these updates, PGL aims to redefine the landscape of competitive Counter-Strike.

By focusing on logistics, prize transparency, and audience engagement, PGL is setting new benchmarks for Tier 1 tournaments.

    In another high-stakes matchup, FURIA Esports stunned Team Spirit with a dominant 13-6 win on Dust2.

    Spirit, who had qualified for the Major through a tense Europe RMR B campaign, were no match for FURIA’s aggressive playstyle.

    Marcelo “⁠chelo⁠” Cespedes and Felipe “⁠skullz⁠” Medeiros were instrumental in giving the Brazilians an 8-4 lead at halftime, and despite some attempts by Spirit’s Danil “⁠donk⁠” Kryshkovets to mount a comeback, FURIA sealed the victory to send Spirit to the 0-1 pool.

    Team Vitality, led by superstar Mathieu “⁠ZywOo⁠” Herbaut, dispatched GamerLegion 13-7 on Mirage to join the 1-0 pool.

    ZywOo’s exceptional performance, including a 1.91 rating and 123.2 ADR, kept Vitality in control throughout the match, highlighting why they are one of the favourites to go deep in the tournament.

    As the elimination stage progressed, HEROIC and MIBR joined the list of winners, with HEROIC emerging 13-8 victors over FaZe Clan on Ancient.

    HEROIC’s commanding terrorist side performance, despite a few flashes of brilliance from FaZe’s HĂ„vard “⁠rain⁠” Nygaard, proved too much for the international roster, pushing FaZe into the increasingly perilous 1-1 pool.

    Meanwhile, MIBR claimed a hard-fought 13-11 win over 3DMAX, with Felipe “⁠insani⁠” Yuji playing a pivotal role in securing the victory after a dominant 19-kill first half on Inferno.

    The results saw the 2-0 pool take shape, with MIBR, Vitality, and The MongolZ securing spots, while Spirit, G2, and Natus Vincere were placed in the 1-1 pool, and BIG, GamerLegion, and Wildcard found themselves in the 0-2 group.

    The second round brought more excitement as The MongolZ pulled off a nail-biting 16-14 overtime win over MOUZ.

    The Mongolian squad, down 10-5 in the second half, staged a remarkable comeback, with Sodbayar “⁠Techno⁠” Munkhbold stepping up with a clutch 1v2 in regulation to force overtime.

    In the extra rounds, The MongolZ tightened their grip on the game, winning four of five rounds to advance to the 2-0 pool.

    Meanwhile, Spirit bounced back from their earlier loss to FURIA, defeating Wildcard 13-6 on Ancient.

    Spirit showed resilience in the face of adversity, and while Wildcard had their moments in the first half, Spirit’s superior firepower ultimately prevailed, sending Wildcard to the 0-2 pool.

    Vitality continued their winning ways, edging out FURIA 19-17 in a hard-fought Mirage match that went to overtime.

    FURIA’s strong first half on the attack wasn’t enough to hold off ZywOo’s resurgence, as Vitality mounted a comeback to claim the win and secure a spot in the 2-0 pool.

    On the B-stream, Liquid defeated GamerLegion 13-9, with standout performances from Russel “⁠Twistzz⁠” Van Dulken and Mareks “⁠YEKINDAR⁠” GaÄŒinskis leading the charge.

    After a back-and-forth first half, Liquid’s superior tactical play and individual skill were too much for GamerLegion, who struggled to keep up in the second half.

    The final round of matches set the stage for some of the most anticipated matchups of the tournament.

    FaZe, despite their loss to HEROIC, will now face the danger of elimination in their next match in the 1-1 pool.

    MOUZ, having fallen to The MongolZ in overtime, will also be fighting for their tournament life, joining G2 and Natus Vincere in a competitive pool of teams looking to avoid a trip to the 0-2 group.

    The elimination stage of the Shanghai Major will continue on Friday.

    Complexity started strong on their map pick of Anubis, where they dominated on the counter-terrorist side to take a 9-3 lead at halftime.

    The North American-owned organisation closed out the map quickly in the second half, running out a 13-5 victor.

    BIG started much better on their pick of Ancient, and on their counter-terrorist side, they were dominant, winning eight of the last 10 rounds en route to a 13-9 win.

    With the series on the line, HĂ„kon “hallzerk” FjĂŠrli stepped up and produced an outstanding performance for Complexity on Dust2; however, it was all for nothing.

    The rest of his team couldn’t provide the help he needed, and BIG’s teamwork proved pivotal in them claiming the decider, 13-9.

    Following on from the first series, MIBR and FlyQuest clashed with another elimination stage spot on the line.

    MIBR started the opening stage with back-to-back losses and turned things around to claim two wins, while FlyQuest won their first two before suffering two straight defeats.

    The Brazilian squad picked Nuke, and there was no contest, as the Aussie outfit struggled from the first round and only won four rounds in a 13-4 demolition.

    Even though FlyQuest started a little better in the early round of their map pick of Inferno, MIBR proved too strong once again.

    They won 10 of the last 12 rounds, with each of their five players finishing with ratings of 1.29 or higher, as they took the second and final map 13-5.

    Wildcard and Passion UA were the final two teams to play off for the last spot in the elimination stage.

    Both squads traded 13-6 map victories on their own map pick, but overtime was needed to decide the third map.

    Passion UA took a slender 7-5 lead into halftime before Wildcard responded with their own 7-5 half, tying the score at 12-12.

    It only took five extra rounds to decide the result, as Wildcard claimed a 16-13 victory to snatch the last ticket into the next stage at the Shanghai Major.

    The elimination stage will kick off on Thursday, December 5, where the 16 teams will play two rounds of best-of-one matches.

    BIG started the series in fine style, racing out to an early lead on FURIA’s map pick of Nuke before closing out the map in quick time, claiming a 13-5 victory.

    Led by a Yuri “yuurih” Santos masterclass, FURIA bounced back with a gritty 13-11 win on BIG’s pick of Mirage, even though the all-Brazilian roster nearly threw a 10-2 halftime lead.

    Yuurih topped the scoreboard with an impressive 1.58 rating after dropping a server-high 26 kills and 100 ADR on the second map of the clash.

    Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo assured the series win with a massive performance on the deciding map, Dust2.

    The legendary AWPer posted 18 kills and eight deaths, 127.8 ADR, and an incredible 2.08 rating to lead FURIA to a comfortable 13-5 victory.

    paiN Gaming appeared to take notes on the Team Liquid vs FlyQuest series from Sunday as the Brazilian outfit took no chances against the Aussie squad.

    The series opened on Vertigo, which was picked by paiN; however, the two teams couldn’t be split after 24 rounds, and they headed to overtime.

    Kaue “kauez” Kaschuk and co. claimed the first three rounds of overtime and eventually wrapped up the first map, 16-14.

    Although the second map, Inferno, was FlyQuest’s map pick, they were never really in the game.

    paiN took a 7-5 lead into the second half before going on to dominate their terrorist side, claiming six of the first seven rounds to run away with a 13-6 win and 2-0 series triumph.

    MIBR completed the hat-trick for Brazil, following their win 2-1 (13-9, 11-13, 13-4) against Rare Atom in an elimination clash.

    Felipe “insani” Yuji stood out as the top performer for MIBR, recording a massive 1.57 rating across the three maps and series highs in kills (61), kill/death difference (+24), and ADR (108.4).

    Another organisation from the Americas that staved off elimination was Complexity, who seemed to finally find their groove in a strong 2-0 victory against Cloud9.

    The two matched 10-2 halves on Vertigo and sent the opening map to overtime before Jonathan ‘EliGE’ Jablonowski and co. took four of the next five rounds to run out 16-13 winners.

    Cloud9’s map pick of Ancient wasn’t as competitive after Complexity raced out to an 8-4 halftime lead before wrapping up the series with a 13-8 victory.

    The last two series of the day featured GamerLegion and Passion UA, who were fighting for a spot in the elimination stage, while Virtus.pro and Wildcard clashed with their Major lives on the line.

    GamerLegion booked their place in the main event of the Shanghai Major with a 2-1 victory, following a tight contest on the third map, Ancient.

    The two squads traded map picks, with GamerLegion taking Passion UA’s pick of Inferno (13-6) before Passion UA returned serve, taking Mirage 13-5.

    Passion UA tried to rally back on Ancient after going down 9-3 in the first half, but ultimately they would fall a few rounds short, with GamerLegion’s team play helping them to a 13-9 win to close out the series.

    Meanwhile, VP and Wildcard played out an exhilarating contest that featured all three maps, Ancient, Inferno and Anubis.

    VP seemingly never lost control of the match on their map pick, taking the opener 13-8.

    Wildcard bounced back quickly by sprinting out to a 9-3 halftime lead on their own pick before playing out a back-and-forth second half to claim a 13-7 victory.

    The North American organisation started hot again on the final map, ending the first half with an 8-4 lead.

    They continued to control the map early in the second half, and even though they struggled to close it out, Wildcard eventually claimed Anubis, 13-8.

    Tuesday will feature the final three series of the opening stage, with all six teams playing for a spot in the elimination stage.

      FlyQuest dismantled Liquid on Inferno as they sprinted out to a 9-1 lead before closing out the map with a 13-5 scoreline, but Liquid were quick to level the score, securing Anubis (13-9) after controlling most of the contest before the Aussies rallied late in the piece.

      Fnatic was the first team to be eliminated on day two after the European squad failed to win a match, falling the hometown squad, Rare Atom, in a back-and-forth series.

      Fnatic took their own map pick of Ancient (13-10), before Rare Atom answered back with their own 13-10 win on Inferno.

      The Asian squad maintained their winning form in the decider as they closed out the series with a dominant 13-4 victory on Vertigo.

      Imperial Esports joined Fnatic in exiting the Major, as the Brazilian outfit was sent packing by Complexity, who claimed an easy 2-0 (13-4 on Inferno, 13-5 on Ancient) victory.

      Imperial only won nine rounds across the two maps, with Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and co. proving to be the superior team in the elimination clash.

      Earlier in the day, Passion UA took care of MIBR (13-5), BIG edged past Virtus.pro (13-11), paiN Gaming held off a strong comeback from Cloud9 (13-11), and FURIA needed overtime to defeat Wildcard (16-14).

      The winners of the final best-of-one matches move into the 2-1 pool and will only need one more victory to advance to the elimination stage, while the losers will seek to stave off elimination in the 1-2 pool.

      On Monday, three more teams will book their spot in the next stage, and another three will be sent home, with six best-of-three series set to take place in Shanghai.
